How To Buy Underwire Nursing Bras

Buying nursing bras can be a process. Your size is larger for the first couple of weeks after birth. Then you shrink to a stable size for about six months. At that point you may shrink again! So how do you buy nursing bras that last?
Nursing bras only differ from regular bras in one respect: they have flaps that open. So there are a few qualities I look for in a good nursing bra:
- Easy opening flaps – I want to be able to open it with one hand.
- Comfort – Especially the first few weeks, I want a comfortable bra. After that, I use that bra to sleep in to prevent leaks.
- Support – I want something that will support me and not leave me hanging.
- Breathable fabric – especially at first, when you have sore nipples.
You’ll need at least three bras – one to wear, one to be in the wash, and one ready to go if you soak the one you’re wearing. I prefer to have at least five.
You’ll also want to take the time to measure yourself accurately. If you’re afraid your size may be off, go with a more forgiving brand, like Bravado. But note that this brand does cost a little more (around $40).
